Coombs Real Estate
Much like the surrounding communities of Errington and Hilliers, the real estate market for Coombs consists of single-family homes and vacant lots and land. However, unlike other communities, a home in Coombs is quite desirable because of the touristy nature of the community, and this is often reflected in the price.
In regards to architecture and home styles, homebuyers can select from quaint cottages, often manufacture or mobile, which offer the same amenities and location at a more affordable price point. Alternatively, Coombs is also known for its large, luxury estates and farms, integrating traditional log cabin and farmhouse styles into their design. Wood finishes are a popular choice for homes for sale in Coombs, but perhaps the most attractive feature of these properties is the substantial acreage attached.
Coombs makes for the perfect community for your farm or ranch, or as a rural escape, either as a full-time resident or as a second home.
Coombs Lifestyle
At a population of around 2,000 people, Coombs is pretty similar to other rural communities in the area when it comes to size. However, Coombs has a commercial center that offers far more amenities than one might think!
The highway runs right through Coombs, and most of the community's shops and restaurants are located around the Old Country Market, between Station Road and Coombs Road. This is where some of the most popular tourist attractions are located, but it's also considered the heart of the community. Stores are local and unique, and include the wonders at the Coombs Emporium, second-hand stores and gift shops, a retailer that imports Dutch goods, a garden center, and more.
One of the biggest highlights of Coombs is the Old Country Market, which has been made famous for its roof, which feeds local goats. The inside features a number of vendors, such as grocers fresh produce, handmade goods, and other novelty items. Coombs is also set to be the future home of a branch of the The Canadian Railroad Historical Society.
Top Coombs Highlights & Amenities
Highway 4, which runs through the community and serves as Coombs' main road, is where most of the shops and restaurants are located. The area around the Old Country Market has an excellent Italian restaurant, ice cream and dessert shops, a bookstore, and more, all centered around Statue Square. As one of the major attractions, Statue Square is technically a plaza, with a large area filled with stone statues. Just a short walk away is the Fairy Castle, a multi-coloured structure that you can walk through, also viewable from the street. Both of these attractions are part of the Coombs Fairgrounds and Event Centre.
Other Coombs highlights include Hamilton Hobby Farm, the Coombs Rodeo Grounds, and Butterfly World. Open from April to October, Butterfly World describes itself as an ecological experience, home to tropical plants, Asian and South American butterflies, birds, and tarantulas. The facility was also once home to Samson, an African Sulcata Tortoise, but he is now retired.
