Crofton Waterfront Real Estate

The community of Crofton is located in Central Vancouver Island, almost halfway between the two largest cities, Nanaimo and Victoria. Though an oceanfront community, there are only very few properties that are located on the water, so while listings are already pretty rare on the market, waterfront real estate is particularly exclusive.

Crofton's neighbourhoods spread out towards the south and west, in towards the rest of the island, necessary because its northern coast is home to a mill. Most waterfront real estate is found south of Osborne Bay Resort, with a few exceptions.

Offering unparalleled privacy in quaint neighbourhoods, waterfront real estate in Crofton is notable for its large lot sizes, so buyers get a lot more in comparison to the cities like Nanaimo. Homes around Osborne Bay Regional Park are estate-sized, with substantial driveways and yards that lead all the way to the beach. As for water/beach access, this is more limited in this community, but the views of the islands surrounding Crofton make up for it.

Crofton Waterfront Real Estate Lifestyle

Positioned on the coast, Crofton's more rural atmosphere makes it an ideal place to settle for outdoor enthusiasts, retirees, or those who just want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Crofton's waterfront is centered on Chaplin street, which connects to Crofton Road, and thereafter the highway. The harbourfront has a marina, the Crofton Ferry, parking, and a community seawalk. The Crofton Ferry takes passengers to and from Vesuvius, which is a community on the north end of Salt Spring Island. The other side of the island has another ferry, which connects to the mainland via  Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.

Other amenities on the waterfront include the various beach access points, as well as two main parks. Crofton Beach Park is closer to the center of the community, and has a few benches, workout equipment, and a stretch of beach. Southward is Osborne Regional Park, which has a trail system through the forest which eventually leads to a different beach.

Top Crofton Waterfront Highlights & Attractions

With a population of only about 1,500 people, Crofton is a smaller community. Those who call Crofton home enjoy the larger properties and the tranquil atmosphere. While Crofton doesn't have a substantial downtown area, its waterfront has a few features—the ferry terminal and the marina already having been mentioned above. Beyond this, there are a few cafes (one which doubles as a pub), a post office, a supermarket, and a couple of hotels.

The Osbourne Bay Resort is located south of the marina, past Spinnaker Place Beach, and offers both RV campgrounds as well as cottages/cabins. This is a great choice for those who love the outdoors, as Crofton is within driving distance to Crofton Lake, Maple Mountain Hiking Area, Maple Bay Beach Park, and the various trails in and around Duncan (to the south) and Chemainus (to the north). Additionally, more shopping and dining options can be found in these neighbouring communities.
